Saint Agatha (V.M.) refers to Saint Agatha of Sicily, a Christian virgin martyr from the 3rd century who was tortured and killed during the Decian persecution in 251 AD. V.M. stands for Virgo-Martyr or Virgin-Martyr, referring to her status as a consecrated virgin who suffered martyrdom for her faith. She is known as the patroness of Sicily, especially Catania, and is invoked for protection against fires, earthquakes, and breast cancer.
